Seaworld?

We've all seen this Sea-world-esque mural painted onto the Marketplace Design Center. At first glance, the painting may fulfill subconscious childhood desires: huge sea creatures for you to see up close. However, a child did not paint this mural, nor is it painted to the building of Sea-World.

The Marketplace Design Center houses some pretty prestigious retailers and businesses. Nothing says sophisticated like a big painting of fish on your building, right? Wrong. Let's be open-minded and hope that maybe the artist thought this was a nice way to incorporate the aquatic life nearby in the Schuylkill. Too bad the water is not this blue and these animals can not be found in Pennsylvania. It's really just a poor contrast to the beauty that lies just below it.

Overall, I think this painting distracts people from viewing the beauty of the bridges and the river. It also poorly adorns such a sophisticated building. There are so many great murals in the city of Philadelphia. Sadly, our Marketplace Design fish tank does not compare.
